Jake and Dana

Fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves, the cooler temps, and the adorable family sessions I get to photograph.... ;-) And this family was no exception.

NIna and Adam, plus four

I had the opportunity to photograph this lovely family a couple of weeks ago. When we were tossing around location ideas, Nina mentioned this great little field just down the road from their house. Lets just say, I was giddy with excitement when we showed up. The light, the old barn.... ummmm.. MAGICAL! (cue swoony eyes and all the feels).

A Move And A Sale!

I feel like I've been slacking terribly in the blog-o-sphere lately, but I also feel I have good reason. ;) This past winter the Hubs took a new job out on the west side of Michigan. It was HUGE change for our family, but one we were pretty excited about. The spring was spent looking for houses and FINALLY..this July we closed on our home. We've spent the last two months getting settled and I'm finally getting back into blogging and all things business. ;)

That being said.... I've decided to have a "We Just Moved, Lets Have A Sale" sale.  The BEST part?, this sale is available to EVERYONE!! Old clients, new clients... and everyone in between. Sessions in Livingston Co will be VERY limited, so if you are interested in booking one, please contact me ASAP, because once the dates are gone... they are gone. Sessions for those in Calhoun Co and  Kalamazoo Co., will also be limited, however, exceptions can be made for those needing weekday appts. (please contact me for weekday availability)

Spring Is In The Air!

 Spring has finally come to Michigan and I couldn't be happier! (just don't look outside today....I know, I know... it's snowing). 

The fabulous weather we had over the weekend has me in the mood for spring photos. :) I know fall is the favorite time of year for many families, but spring portraits are a great way to capture just how much your child has grown over the last six months. Friends, can you believe that we are almost halfway through summer vacation?! I hope that you are enjoying these warm, sunshine filled, days. I know we are. ;)

As the days seem to blend one into the other, I can't help but think of the cooler temps looming in the not-so-far off future. Michigan autumns are probably my fave season of the entire year, and as a photographer, it's one of THE busiest times of the year for me. From family portrait sessions, to new babies, everyone wants in on the gorgeous colors that Mother Nature provides during the fall months.

Knowing how busy fall is, I've decided to open up booking now for the month of October. Sessions will be EXTREMELY limited this year....which brings me to my BIG announcement. ;) If you follow me on IG (@wcmccoy) you may have noticed that we will be adding to our family the beginning of September. Yes, we will be adding our 5th, and final, little one to our crew. Normally, I would take about a 3 month maternity leave, however........ knowing how busy my fall portrait schedule typically is, and knowing how important it is to my clients to get those family photos done each year.....I have decided to take a very limited number of fall sessions.

These sessions will be offered during the month of October, on Saturday and Sunday only. There will also be special pricing for these sessions. ;) Full session (for up to 4 people, ea. add. person is $10), plus CD with printing rights......will be $400. Yes, only $400. (Normally $1500)

A worthy cause... and a gift for you!!

Fans, friends, family! I have a small request of you all today. I am in need of your help. On June 2nd, my family and I will be walking at the Detroit Zoo to benefit the National Kidney Foundation., but we need your help! We need to reach our goal of $1000 in donations by June 1st!



We might ask "why" I am doing this walk, well... I'll tell you: my bother-in-law, Daniel. He has suffered from chronic kidney disorder since he was just 2 years old. He turns 30 this June. That means he's been living with this disease almost his entire life! He has been on hefty medications for almost his entire life (which have now begun to affect his liver, requiring more medications to offset the damage), he's had to undergo painful biopsies, and has even required hospitalization for relapses, and at times for common illnesses like the flu. These illnesses simply cause the rest of us to miss a few days of work, and stay in bed, but for Daniel, and others who suffer from kidney disorders, these common illnesses require hospitalization. Their immune systems are weakened, thus making them more susceptible to disease, and when they do get sick, it's much worse for them than for you or I.

But with your donation to the National Kidney Foundation, these individuals can lead a much happier life. Your donation dollar is well-spent with the National Kidney Foundation. More than 81 cents of every dollar goes directly to vital programs and services, including:

-Early Detection - free kidney health screenings
-Public Education Initiatives - awareness through public service campaigns, and community and online education
-Advocacy - promotion of legislation impacting kidney patients, donors and transplant recipients
- Organ Donation - action plan to End the Wait! for kidney transplants in the U.S.
-Patient Services - support and information through a toll-free hotline, NKF Cares (1-855-653-2273) and a peer mentoring program
-Professional Education - clinical guidelines that are changing the way physicians practice, continuing education opportunities and peer-reviewed journals to ensure that health care professionals never stop learning the latest in kidney disease treatment

According to the calendar, spring is right around the corner. But I think Mother Nature has other plans in mind. I don't know about you, but I am soooo ready for warmer weather. I NEED Spring, and sun, and flowers, and birds, and bike rides!

I Heart Faces Photo Contest

I made a NYResolution to be better at "putting myself out there" as far as my photography goes. I have only ever shot for myself, and clients (and family). I really wanted to expand this year, enter into a few contests and such.

The first one is the I Heart Faces Photo Challenge | Best of 2012. I was going back over my stuff from this past year, and this image really hit me. :)

Senior Reps Needed!! | southeast michigan high school senior photographer

 Are you a 2014 senior?? Do you attend Brighton High School, Howell High School, Fowlerville High School,  Pinckney High School, Hartland High School, Novi High School, Northville High School or South Lyon High school?? If so then read on!!!!!

WMP is currently accepting applications for 2014 Senior Reps! This is an amazing opportunity for you to earn FREE prints and discounted products from WMP for your own Senior Portrait session.

We will be taking a max of 4 reps from each HS; 2 boys and 2 girls. If you would like to be considered for this once-a-year opportunity, then please email whitney@whitneymccoyphotography.com with "SENIOR REP" in the subject line. You will receive an application, via email, within 48 hours. It is then up to you fill out and return the application no later than February 28th, 2013. You will also need to include 2 recent photos of yourself (one full body shot, and one head shot. These do NOT need to be professional images. Any applications with professional images that DO NOT include a copyright release will NOT be accepted).

~Must be available for a mini-senior session, at a location in either Ann Arbor, Detroit, or surrounding area, by/before May 1st.
~Must agree to ONLY represent Whitney McCoy Photography for their senior photos.
~Must agree to not use any other photographer for their senior photos.
~Must complete full senior photo session by/before August 31st, 2013. 
~Must be available to meet with WMP, with a parent or guardian, to sign contract, and go over (in depth) details pertaining to the Senior Rep Program. Meeting must take place by March 31st.

I was a little worried the day of this shoot. I woke up that morning to some pretty nasty looking skies and sporadic rain showers all morning. Thankfully, by the time the shoot rolled around, the rain had stopped and it actually warmed up a little. ;)

This cutie mama delivered just a few weeks after our shoot. It's rather unfair how amazing she looked this late into her pregnancy. Lucky girl!! ;)

I will admit, I am so behind in blogging this wedding. This fall season just about killed me! haha I have a lot more sessions to blog after this one.. ;)

Moving on.... ;)

One of the best parts of my job is seeing old friends reach new milestones in their lives. :) When my younger sisters friend, Tricia, contacted me about photographing her wedding I was so excited! (and, truthfully... it made me feel pretty old! lol ) We've been friends with their family for years, and to me.. Tricia should be a little 6 year old girl, attending Brownie meetings with my sister... haha.

Even though it was one of THE hottest weekends of the summer (104* in the shade + 90% humidity).. it was a gorgeous wedding and the bridal party was so fun. I think we all sweated off at least 10 lbs that day. ;)

I Shot Someone In Detroit! | southeast michigan photogapher

I am a horrible blogger. Lets just get that out in the open, shall we? I confess, I suck at blogging. There, I said it. Now.. moving on. ;-)

This past July I was invited to attend the "I Shot Someone In Detroit Workshop" organized by Amy Porter, of "Little Sweet Pea Photography". It was awesome. Two days of shooting and talking shop. I was able to pick the brains of some pretty awesome photographers. I feel awful that I am only just now blogging my pics. But, like I said.... I suck at blogging. ;-)

Anyhow... seniors and kids and a super cute couple (I even shot some boudoir, but that is not going on the blog. Sorry. ;)

This adorable little boy is on my Baby Planner package. :) I'm so excited to photograph this little guys first year of life. He was an absolute angel! Can't wait to see him in October!

An engagement and a Wedding | detroit michigan wedding photographer

In February I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding for some friends of our family. :) We were blessed with some amazing winter weather that day. Gorgeous sunny and blue skies! Mild temps! It was wonderful. :)

The engagement session however... Oh I felt so bad for this sweet bride! The day before the session it was WARM!!! It was 50+ degrees and GORGEOUS!! The very next day however... cold, windy, and horribly overcast skies. But these two were such troopers and you would never know they were freezing to death this whole session. ;)
